It Takes Three Simple Steps To Make a Guy Fall in Love with you… Determination. Seduction. Charm. Let the game begin... Presley Cabot has come a long way from the overweight, awkward college student who fell hard for the gorgeous track star, Nolan Banks, only to be humiliated after their one night together. But when Nolan comes back into town, and doesn’t even recognize the girl he once destroyed, she decides to invoke her own personal revenge. The plan is simple—make him fall hard for her, then dump him. She transforms herself into his perfect woman using three simple steps to spin her web. But she never planned on getting caught up in old feelings…and new promises… Nolan Banks leaves Wall Street behind to open up a brewery in his small college town. Finally ready to carve out his life away from the dreams of his family, he never expected to find an immediate attraction to the sexy corporate mogul who challenges him at every step. He falls hard and fast, determined to show her they’re meant for each other, until the truth of their shared past shatters their fragile foundation. But Nolan is playing for higher stakes, and he’s not about to let Presley walk away without a fight. Many thanks to the author and Inkslinger PR for the complimentary review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

If you guys know me at all, it's pretty much a given that I'm going to enjoy anything Jennifer Probst writes. Her books never fail to bring a corny smile to my face, so I never had a doubt that I would enjoy "The Charm of You". So for this, the review of my twelfth JP read, I've decided to change it up a bit and try a different format.

Here are some of my thoughts, in bullet form for easy reading, no less:

  • I read this book in under 24 hours, which doesn't happen very often for me. In fact, when I finished, I was a little bit sad - I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters, I wanted more!
  • I enjoyed both MCs equally and immensely. They seemed like down to earth, genuinely nice people.
  • In addition to the characters' individual personalities, I also loved their connection and the sexual tension between them, as well as their dialogue and banter.
  • The plot - wow! I can't give anything away here, but some of the things that happened between Presley and Nolan in college really struck home for me. It was rather uncomfortable at times, but I appreciated the accuracy of JP's writing - it made me feel like I was traveling back in time.
  • I liked Presley's friends - JP always writes great female friendships! - but I didn't get a clear picture of their individual personalities or how exactly they fit into the business.
  • Along with the point above, I had some other questions about the business. For example, how did Presley become a billionaire? Are her business partners billionaires, too? I'm not saying it's impossible, but it seemed a bit extreme with only being 10 years out of college. I wanted more detail.
  • And a more random thought for y'all: where did all of Presley's extra skin go with her 100 lb weight loss? Maybe she's one of the lucky ones who didn't have any? I wanted more details on this, too.
  • I would have liked to see more of Nolan's brother and possibly his sister/parents. Dare I hope that JP has something planned for future books?
Overall, another win in my streak of rewarding Jennifer Probst's titles - this one is definitely Roxy recommended!

My rating: 4 stars

EXCERPT:

She’d known all along he’d lied about his identity in order to secure this appointment. Admiration flowed through him, along with a strange punch in his gut that urged him closer. The spicy scent of orange blossoms and clove filled the air, making him want to breathe deeper. “How did you know?” he asked, stopping on the opposite side of the monstrous espresso structure that held two oversized monitors, dozens of papers, and a toppling pile of books. “I thought I covered my tracks nicely.”
She gave a half shrug and reached for her Starbucks cup, seemingly already bored with his conversation. “You’re predictable.”
Male pride stung, he still couldn’t help laughing. Why did he have to be attracted to a woman who gave him shit? Would be so much easier to find a more complacent partner for an affair. Unfortunately, Nolan knew it was way too late for him. He was officially smitten. “Then I’ll have to up my game.”
Another shrug. “Maybe you have no game left.” She sipped her coffee and studied him, those stunning eyes shielding her secrets. He ached to know every detail about this woman, but knew he’d have his work cut out for him.
“Come to lunch with me and find out.”
She tilted her head. Tapped her index finger again those bee stung lips as if considering. “Why?”
Her question delighted him. “Because the moment you walked into my brewery I haven’t been able to get you off my mind.”
“How sweet.” She fluttered her lashes. “Too bad I forgot you the moment I walked out of your brewery.”
He dropped into the chair opposite the massive desk and hooked his foot over his knee. He made no attempt to hide his naked admiration for those amazing legs or the brazen way she challenged him to go and try. Her foot flexed, lifting the spiked heel, and those sleek muscles clenched under golden skin. His dick practically wept and got strangled in his jeans. “Ouch. What if I confessed you were the first woman in a long while to intrigue me?”
“Yeah? What intrigues you so much?”
He warmed up to the topic. “Besides your rapier wit, and superior intelligence? Your eyes. When I look into your eyes, I seem to lose track of time. I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
Was it possible she actually looked bored with his compliment? She gave a long-suffering sigh, regarding him like he was mentally challenged. “Please tell me you have better things in your arsenal. And you better upgrade from that Peter Gabriel song because it’s been overdone. I spend every Saturday with a personal trainer who makes me throw up for fun, so I really don’t want to hear about my pretty eyes or wit. Go ahead and bring it. Tell me I have a slamming body and get creative, dude, or I’m throwing you out and you won’t get another chance to bang me.”
God, she was magnificent.

Many thanks to InkSlinger PR for the free review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is my first book by this author, but I've always heard great things about her books and writing, so I was pretty excited to get in on this blog tour - I was hoping for a real winner, and that's exactly what I got with "As Dust Dances". Now I just need to go back and read all of Samantha Young's previous books!

There were so many great things about this story! For example, I loved the beginning when Skylar was living rough in Glasgow. This set a fast pace and connected me immediately with Skylar, as I felt legitimate concern for her being in this situation. I also enjoyed the v
ery real portrayal of the negative effects of fame and paparazzi - Skylar had such a hard time with this, and was more than ready to give up everything she'd worked so hard for in order to have some privacy. In fact, this became the main source of conflict between Killian and Skylar, as Killian's main mission in life was to sign Skylar to his label and thus subject her to the whims of the paparazzi once more.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the relationship Skylar had with her ex-bandmates, including her ex-boyfriend Micah. Although she had a very dysfunctional relationship with Micah, it seemed realistic that she would still have strong feelings for him, and I'm pleased with how their story arc concluded.

It took a while for Killian to grow on me, which was the same for Skylar as well. He came across as very serious and gruff, not to mention single minded. However, once he made his feelings for Skylar known, Killian was all in, and I loved that! There was no humming or hawing, he just put it all out there and was ready to give Skylar everything. My opinion of him did a very quick 180 degree turn, which was fabulous.

EXCERPT: When I finished, O’Dea was sitting on the chair, his elbows braced on his knees. He was staring at the floor, like he was lost in thought. Then he looked up at me and my breath caught at the million heartbreaking emotions roiling in his gaze. And then they were gone, as if they’d never been there. “That’s all I have so far,” I whispered, so confused by him. “No more songs.” His expression was unreadable. “Your visitor’s visa is about to run out.” Bewildered by the response, I could only nod. “You’ve no money.” I tensed. “You’ve run away from your identity, from your life in the band, in the US. You’ve no family to speak of, and you abandoned your friends.” The man was the soul of sensitivity. “Your point?” “My point is that you don’t have many options. I think you were living in some naive fantasy that you could keep running from your problems and live a relatively peaceful life as a homeless person. Somehow, miraculously, you survived unscathed for five months. But last night you were given a giant fucking look at the reality and dangers of homelessness. I wish it hadn’t happened that way, but there was never any other way it was going to end. And it has ended, am I right?” “So, do you get, like, a bonus at the end of every day if you say a hundred patronizing things in a twenty-four-hour period or something?” He ignored me. “You can’t go back to sleeping rough.” “I think I got that, thanks.” I waved my cast at him. “So … it’s either call your old manager, your band—” “Not an option,” I snapped. O’Dea smirked. “Then I’m all you’ve got. And I’m no fucking Mother Teresa. I’m in the business of making money, Miss Finch. You’ve already proven you’re good at making it. And from what I heard today and have heard you playing when you busk, I think the world hasn’t even seen a fraction of what you can do.” There was really nothing to do but glare and hope that he withered under it. “I’ll let you stay here in this flat free of charge, give you a weekly stipend for clothes, groceries, a new guitar. You can heal up here. But all of it in exchange for a record contract. A one-album deal, that’s all I ask. When you’re healed up, you’ll be straight into the studio to record.” The thought made my stomach pitch. “I don’t want to be famous again.” “Tough shit. There is no being famous again. You are famous. And you’ve got more talent in your pinkie finger than most do in their entire being. And that talent deserves more of a platform than standing on a street busking. It’s a goddamned insult to all those people out there trying to make the big time. I don’t care what it is you’re running from. I care that you sort yourself out and make some music again. Music that matters. Music that will heal you.” I bristled. “I’ve made music that matters. I’ve got the fan mail to prove it.” “Your music in Tellurian did its job. It was catchy, appealing, and teenagers related. But your voice is meant for something else. The songs you just sang to me … those are songs that will really make people feel. It’s vulnerable and brutally honest and that’s the stuff that resonates with people. People want songs that make them feel good, but they also just want songs that me them feel, even if it breaks their fucking heart. You’ve been through a lot, Skylar. Even if I couldn’t read a newspaper, I’d know that by listening to those songs you sang. “Two years ago, you were a leader on social media and the lead singer of a pop-rock band that teens and college freshman loved. I’m not asking you to go back to that. I’m asking you to become an artist in your own right. If you don’t want the social media exposure, we’ll have someone else run that stuff for you. And we’ll do what we can to minimize the tabloid exposure. It will be hard at first considering your disappearance, but once it dies down, we can make it so you’re not hounded. It is possible.” “It doesn’t matter whether they hound me or not. I hate the fame. I hate the touring. I hate it all.” “No.” His expression hardened. “You don’t…”

"Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you'll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town. EXCERPT

“Did you enjoy the wedding?” he asked.
“W-what?”
The man stood much closer than necessary. “The wedding. It was nice, right?”
“Sure.”
Faint strains of music carried from across the road. It seemed worlds away. He downed a mouthful of scotch, gaze never leaving my face. All I could smell was the single malt, his cologne, and the slight scent of salt on his skin. After all, it’d been a hot night and he’d been dancing in the suit. He wasn’t happy; I knew the signs well enough. The tension in his jawline and the look in his eyes. All heated and intense.
“So you’ve been sitting in the dark, drinking and brooding, huh?” I asked. “That sounds constructive.”
“What did Leona have to say?”
I laughed. “Oh, hell no. I’m not getting caught in the middle of you two again. Why don’t you try settling your issues like normal people and actually talk to one another?”
“You have such a clever mouth, Adele.” He cocked his head. “Always got an answer, don’t you?”
“Enjoy your scotch, Pete.” I turned away. “I’m going to bed.”
“What’s the rush?” Strong fingers wrapped around my arm, not gripping me hard, just enough to hold me in place.
“I’ve spent enough time tonight in the company of a drunken asshole, thank you.” I smiled.
His return smile was lopsided. “You’re angry.”
“I’m tired.”
“You’re angry and tired. Me too,” he said. “Less so on the tired, though. Actually, I’m wide the fuck awake.”
“Good for you.”
He finished off his drink, then reached past me, setting the empty glass on the kitchen counter. “Keep me company.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Why not?” he asked, expression full of false interest. “Thought you’d love the chance to tell me off some more.”
I looked away. “We’re done here.”
“No, we’re not.”
“Yes, we are.” I pulled my arm out of his grasp. “We’re finished, Pete. Our friendship or whatever the hell it is these days . . . It’s over, kaput, the end. Took me seven years, but tonight I finally wised up.”
“That so?”
“Yep,” I said. “I refuse to keep feeling this way about you. It’s such a stupid waste.”
His gaze narrowed.
“You know, I even have a plan.”
“What might that be?”
“In the morning, I’m going to go home and fuck every available man I meet until one of them does it for me.” My smile felt jagged and horrible. It couldn’t have been pretty so see. “And then I won’t think about you anymore.”
His fingers curled into tight fists. Nice to know I wasn’t the only one affected. I put my hand on his chest, getting up in his face. Two could play the invading-personal-space game, for fun and intimidation. As if I would back down.
